BA IN COMPUTER ANIMATION is about the use of computers to produce animation. This means that you will learn about the principles and practice of animation and then learn how to use computer based tools to create 2-D and 3-D animation. The skills you'll learn can be applied to a wide range of media, from web-based animation to music videos, from TV advertisements to full-length animated movies the applications are as wide ranging as they are exciting.
There are options during the course to study other related areas that will add to your skills, such as computers and music or broadcast television. During the final year you have the opportunity to work on substantial individual and group projects which, together with the work you produce during the first and second years, will give you a strong portfolio of work to take with you when you graduate.
You will learn the techniques and practices of computer animation. You'll learn how to script, storyboard and develop a story, and then subsequently how to realise your vision. You'll also learn about how sound relates to the images that you produce, and how your own and existing work fits into the wider world of media. You'll also develop your presentation and communication skills and learn how to work effectively in group projects.
Graduates will be well qualified to enter careers in computer animation and post-production, as well as working in animation departments in other fields such as the video games industry. Due to the broad nature of the course, other fields will also offer career possibilities, such as video production or graphic design. Alternatively, some graduates may want to continue their studies at Master's level.
If you enjoy working creatively with computers and have an enthusiasm for animation of all kinds, then this is the course for you.
