BSC INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS AND VIDEO GAMES DESIGN: The video games industry now makes more money than films and DVDs combined. With gamer demographics continuing to change and grow, there is already a huge and varied market for games, and it’s getting bigger all the time.
The hardware and software of games and gaming platforms is also expanding and diversifying into a range from high spec home entertainment systems in high definition and stereoscopic 3D to smaller, powerful handheld and portable devices with accessible applications and digital distribution methods. Never before has the potential for game development, game design innovation, and for future game developers been so diverse, and this is something Bradford knows all about.
The course, now in its 11th year, examines the theory and practice of game play as well as user interface design, computer animation and graphics programming. ISVGD emphasises the development of theoretical as well as highly practical skills needed for indie game development and commercial game design, and is taught by staff with years of games industry experience.
As an ISVGD student, you will study the history of games, strategy and AI, from traditional games such as chess through to the most sophisticated computer games. What makes a game intriguing and satisfying to play? Who will the players be, and what are their expectations? How do you craft immersive and satisfying experiences for your players? Which development platform is most suitable for your ideas and your ideal market?
ISVGD students also learn how to design and develop complex real-time interactive software in a creative and inclusive environment. In the final year of the course you will put these skills into practice, working individually and as a team on production projects that involve the development of game levels and prototypes with live clients. Some the previous years’ titles from our students are available on the Xbox Live Arcade platform.
Graduates of the ISVGD course can look forward to an exciting career in Britain's fast-moving games industry, but also because of the increasing importance of multimedia and interactivity in the film, television, and communications industries you will find that there is potential for a career in all of these areas.
