Welcome to Creative Technology

Mark Goodliff, Head of Creative Technology. The Department of Creative Technology focuses on the areas of computer animation and effects work, games and interactive media. Our ethos is to help you immerse yourself in these areas, and to encourage you to make your own contribution towards advancing them.

After all, there’s never been a better time to develop and utilise your creative talents. With today’s technology, we can visualise impossible events and build worlds that bring our imagination to life. We can interact with fantastic environments that challenge us and connect us to global communities. Art, science, creativity and technology are all meeting head on, and this is having a profound impact on the way that we make sense of the world around us.

But all of this is only possible, and can only move forward, thanks to the imagination of the people driving this incredible technology – the people who are making things with it. This is where our Department comes in and where we hope you will too.

We work closely with an extended family of industrial contacts, to stay on top of fast-moving developments and trends. We have excellent resources in the Department that match and often surpass what you'll find in the commercial sector. Whilst we deal with relatively ‘new’ subjects, we have a long track record in these fields and were one of the first UK Universities to develop courses in computer animation and games.  Since the early 1990s, we have always encouraged a blend of creative and technical know-how, embracing timeless principles and traditions, and forward-thinking innovation at the same time.

Whether you’re looking for award-winning student projects, or cutting edge research, we hope that you like what the Department of Creative Technology has to offer. Join us!
